Bristol University Latin American & Ballroom Dancing Society
Aside to the regular social classes on Tuesdays, BULABDS also prides itself of its Dancesport (the formal name for competitive dancing) Team. Over the years, Bristol University Dancesport Team has maintained its position in the top 5 at the inter-varsity dance championships. With some of the best dancers in the university circuit (most of whom have been trained from scratch by our coaches), the Bristol A-team was crowned The University National Champions at the university nationals competition (IVDC) in March 2005.
Members of the team receive lessons from our world-class coaches and the team caters for a wide range of abilities: everyone from complete beginners all the way to experienced dancers.
The Main Team consists of 16 couples; each couple representing the team in their own dance (Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha or Jive). We conduct team trials at the start of the academic year and we are always glad to take on exceptional beginners and dancers with experience. The main team receives a great deal of individual lessons at a nominal fee and we have our team lessons on Monday and Thursday nights.
The Beginners Team consists of students who have had no lessons in Ballroom or Latin American dancing before. There is no limit to the number of beginner team members we recruit, and it is a great way for you to improve your dancing. You will receive professional coaching and compete against other beginners at the university dance competitions. Many of our top couples started dancing in the Beginners Team.
