I read the Dancetalk forum on a regular basis -- Lisa is certainly also a member but I haven't seen her posting for a while so I suspect noone from Bristol will have seen that there's a post by Manuel (EADA committee member) in the University section.
This is what he says
" Now that the Christmas Ball season is almost within "smelling" distance can I please remind all who take part in Demos especially for Uni clubs & societites that they are required to report all demos ( regardless of if a fee is involved or not) to EADA.
This is NOT an EADA rule but a BDC rule, failure to do so can put your amateur status at risk and will almost certainly lead to some sort of disciplinary action. We would much prefer to avoid such a situation, if for no other reasons than it is unpleasant and it takes too much time which we would rather spend on positivie activities for EADA, however EADA is under pressure from the profession to enforce the rule in its capacity as the National Amateur Governing Body.
Thank you in anticipation
Please report all demos to demo@eada.org.uk" |

Does this apply to those of us on the Uni circuit who do demo's for others? _________________ Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in high heels. -Faith Whittlesey |

| It sounds to me like it's a warning to the Amateur dancers from the open circuit who are planning to do demos for university balls e.g. our xmas ball. I wouldn't think the rule applies to every single person who is a competitive dancer - that would be ridiculous I think! But best to double check with this person, mentioning that most if not all our dancers are not of Amateur level and the demos we do are largely for the other union societies. |

| I'd be interested to know what Manuel's response was. I think the rule *is* meant to catch all competitive dancers. So those who are registered with EADA (Emma/Ali/Terry/others I don't know of) should be declaring dems even if they're not paid just to protect their position as amateurs. Silly rule but at least it will only require a quick email to Manuel each time. If there's payment involved the whole thing gets trickier. |
