Bristol University Latin American & Ballroom Dancing Society
At the Summer Ball 1997, BULABDS (formerly known as BUBDS - Bristol University Ballroom Dancing Society) launched the awards system. The system is aimed to recognise members of the society and team for their hard work and achievement during their time in the society. The awards have been presented every year since. A few changes have been made to the awards system in the last couple of years, making the definitions more explicit in order to raise profile of the awards within the society and to make the award ceremony more of a special event.

(Outstanding Service to the Society) This is an award for those within the society who have shown, through dedication, acts or other contributions, an example of outstanding service to the BULABDS.
Applies to only those who dance in the social lessons and not in the team. There are two of these awards each year, one for a male and one for a female, who have excelled throughout the year, whether in the beginner classes, intermediate or advanced.
Awarded to a member of the society who has made a great deal of progress with their dancing throughout the year. This may be someone who has started from scratch and has reached a high standard, or has simply progressed beyond all expectations.
Applies only to members of the beginner's team and can be awarded to a couple or one person. This does not necessarily need to be reflected in competition results, but can be shown through enthusiasm, determination or sheer enjoyment of dancing.
This award is awarded to person(s) or couple(s) who are members of the dancesport team (main team or beginners), and represents the acknowledgement of outstanding results in competitions throughout the year.
New in 2007, the Diane Barron Award was created out of recognition for her 25 years service to the society. The award is presented by Dianne to someone in the society of her choosing. There is no set criteria for this and will be given for any suitable reason that has become apparent over the course of the year.
This is awarded to any member of the society that are considered worthy of a reward for whatever reason, where their contribution does not fit into any of the above definitions.
